The waterfront is a beautiful spot for a stroll, and the Erasmus Bridge offers an gorgeous view of the ships passing by and the city’s characteristic skyline. The perfect time to experience it at full intensity is during the World Port Days in September: sailing trips and cultural entertainment on the water and along the waterfront.
An astonishing architecture
Take a tour on the waterfront area to the Kijk-Kubus, designed by architect Piet Blom, great reflections of the contemporary architecture of the city. It is a furnished museum house, specially designed to let the visitor experience what life would be in this unique housing development in which the houses represent trees and the whole development a wood.
Rotterdam’s Markthal
Referred to as the Dutch version of the Sistine Chapel, it is a one of a kind combination of an indoor market hall with luxury housing in a horseshoe configuration. As you wander amongst the market stands, look up to enjoy the massive artwork sprawling across the ceiling: the ‘Horn of Plenty’ by Arno Coenen and Iris Roskam.
